Everyone loves selfies. But what happens if you’re not in the picture? Well, for a few years now, there have been sites that let you pose for pictures with any stranger, from strangers in your community to strangers in faraway lands.
Now, a new group of startups want to take that idea and turn it into the next social revolution. They’re starting with a website called eBoom. The idea is that you can send a stranger a snapshot of your life, telling them a little bit about yourself. For instance, you can send them a picture of your meal for dinner, or tell them your favorite dessert. And if they like what they see, they can follow you on Instagram or Facebook.
“[S]ending a photo or video to someone else is becoming more and more frequent,” said Josh Goldblatt, CEO and co-founder of eBoom, in an interview with WIRED. “The other day I was at the dentist, and I was telling her about my most embarrassing moment in a restaurant. And a couple months ago, I was in a Starbucks in New York City, and I got this e-mail from an old friend who was in India. I didn’t even know her. She just e-mailed me these pictures.”

There are also a few drawbacks to this idea. For one thing, it’s a lot of work to set up a new e-mail account. And for another, it seems that sending strangers a photo of yourself is not the most appealing thing in the world.
